PhD position

The Department of Economics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) invites applications for a PhD position within the Agricultural and Food Economics research group. SLU is a world-class institution in life and environmental sciences, committed to advancing sustainable development through science and education. The Department of Economics is a key platform for both teaching and research, with strong connections to Agronomy, Bachelor’s, and Master’s programmes, and with research organized across four thematic areas, including Agricultural and Food Economics.

The selected PhD candidate will join a vibrant and collaborative academic environment, conducting research in areas such as:

  1. Agricultural and food policy

  2. Food security

  3. Consumer economics

  4. Development economics

  5. Production economics

  6. Agricultural trade

Qualification

  • Holds a relevant Master’s degree (or equivalent) in economics, agricultural economics, development studies, or a related field.

  • Has a strong interest in agricultural and food policy, sustainability, or global food systems.

  • Possesses solid analytical and writing skills.

  • Is able to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.

  • Previous experience in research or policy analysis, as well as familiarity with quantitative methods, will be considered an asset.

The position offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge international literature in agricultural economics and related disciplines. The research group actively collaborates across fields such as crop production, technology, animal health, and epidemiology. The team comprises around 20 members, including PhD students, postdocs, senior researchers, a senior lecturer, and a professor—offering a stimulating and supportive setting for doctoral research.
