Assessing green H2-NH3 systems: from materials development to LCA

PhD position

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position focusing on the development and sustainability analysis of green hydrogen and ammonia production/storage systems. This multidisciplinary research project merges advanced materials development, CFD-based reactor modeling, and comprehensive life cycle analysis (LCA) to design optimized, low-impact energy conversion technologies. The successful candidate will explore the development of functional materials, carry out multiphysics simulations, and quantify sustainability metrics across multiple process configurations, creating a feedback loop between performance and environmental impact.

Green hydrogen and ammonia are essential vectors for a decarbonized future. However, challenges remain in optimizing materials, reactor designs, and system sustainability. This project will involve the synthesis and characterization of novel materials, CFD modeling of integrated systems, and environmental and economic analysis using LCA and techno-economic evaluation tools. The goal is to propose scalable solutions that are both technologically robust and environmentally friendly.
