Fawzy Abo El-Abbas


Professor Abo El-Abbas is a distinguished leader with extensive experience and a strong commitment to agricultural research and policy, establishing himself as a prominent figure within Egypt’s academic and agricultural sectors. He holds a professorship in agricultural sciences and plant pathology, contributing significantly to the advancement of the Egyptian agrifood industry.
He is an active member of the Supreme Scientific Committee of the Supreme Council of Universities (SCC) in Egypt and serves on the High Accreditation Committee of the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC). Additionally, he participates in the Biological Control and Organic Agriculture Committee under the Agricultural Pesticides Committee (APC) at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
From 2020 to 2022, Professor Abo El-Abbas served as Dean of the Faculty of Organic Agriculture at Heliopolis University and as Executive Manager of the Center of Organic Agriculture. Between 2010 and 2014, he acted as the National Expert on Integrated Pest Management for the Egyptian Medicinal & Aromatic Plants Project (EMAP), a collaboration between the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Egyptian government.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Fawzy has provided expert consultancy services to numerous international and regional organizations, including the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the International Center for Potato (CIP), DANIDA, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), USAID, and various other national and international initiatives.
Education
1985: Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, focusing on interactions between viral and fungal diseases of legumes, completed through a joint program between Bonn University, Germany, and Ain Shams University, Egypt.
1984: Diploma in Higher Education and International Agricultural Development (Plant Pathology) from the Institute of Tropical and Subtropical Crops, Kassel University, Germany.
1978: M.Sc. in Plant Pathology, with a thesis on the interaction between viral infections and rust and leaf spot diseases on beans, Ain Shams University, Egypt.
1971: B.Sc. in Plant Pathology, Very Good with Second Honors, Department of Plant Pathology, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University (ASU), Egypt.
