Research Associate in Climate Governance

Job Opportunity

The University of Cambridge invites applications for a Research Associate in Climate Governance to contribute to an EU-funded research project titled: "Accelerating Climate Action: Navigating towards a Low-Emissions, Resilient Future" (ACCLIMATE).

The ACCLIMATE project aims to support the development of integrated national and international strategies for climate-resilient, low-emission development. It focuses on enhancing the transparency, consistency, and clarity of emission reduction commitments by developing a comprehensive assessment framework. The project brings together a global consortium of national experts from high- and low-emitting countries across the Americas, Asia, Europe, and West Africa.

As part of a collaborative work package led by the University of Cambridge and Vrije Universiteit Brussels, the Research Associate will contribute to:

  1. Developing frameworks to assess mitigation commitments.

  2. Analyzing the impact of the Global Stocktake on future NDCs.

  3. Evaluating international cooperative climate initiatives.

  4. Examining the implications of EU climate policies on international cooperation.

Qualifications

  • PhD (submitted or nearly submitted) in a relevant social science field related to European and/or international climate change governance.

  • Strong potential for high-impact research and publications.

  • Demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary, empirically grounded research.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders (researchers, policymakers, NGOs, communities).
