The European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE), in collaboration with the strategic research program "Predicting Socio-Economic Outcomes in a Changing Climate," is pleased to announce an opening for a postdoctoral researcher focusing on the socio-economic and policy aspects of climate change and food security. The position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of climate science, economics, and policy within a dynamic international research environment.

Research Focus:

  • Risk and impact forecasting

  • Climate policy analysis

  • Socio-economic modeling

  • Decision support for local and national policy frameworks

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct econometric analyses to assess how climate and weather shocks influence food insecurity

  • Develop machine learning-enhanced forecasting tools for sub-seasonal to seasonal timeframes, ensuring interpretability and policy relevance

  • Provide early warning systems and risk alerts to support proactive planning and decision-making

  • Contribute to strategic science-policy communication and engagement

  • Collaborate across CMCC teams and with international research partners

  • Prepare and contribute to grant proposals, peer-reviewed publications, and science-policy reports

  • Present research findings at scientific conferences and workshops

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • PhD in economics, climate science, public policy, data science, or a related field

  • Strong background in econometric modeling and/or machine learning techniques

  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and policy impact

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
