Visiting Lecturer in Environmental Studies

Job Opportunity

The Department of Environmental Studies, College of Arts and Science at New York University invites applications for a Visiting Lecturer position in Environmental Governance and Policy, to begin on September 1, 2026, pending administrative and budgetary approval. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal, up to a maximum of three years in total.

The successful candidate will primarily contribute to undergraduate teaching and possibly to graduate instruction. The teaching load is equivalent to six courses per academic year, which may include lectures, seminars, co-taught classes, independent studies, and recitations.

Applicants are encouraged from any discipline related to environmental governance and policy, including but not limited to: political science, public policy, economics, law, sociology, anthropology, planning, or science and technology studies.

Candidates will be expected to teach existing courses and develop new offerings that complement the department’s curriculum. The department emphasizes transdisciplinary approaches, systems thinking, and inclusive excellence.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. must be in hand by August 31, 2026.

  • Demonstrated or potential excellence in teaching.

  • A research program with strong potential in Environmental Governance and Policy.

  • Willingness to contribute to undergraduate and graduate programs, including the Environmental Studies BA & PhD, and Animal Studies MA & minor.
